The newness of another year, another day, even another moment makes me want to create memories that inspire me to do new things. I know we’re still living in a pandemic, but there are times when we find ways to communicate with our friends, work in new environments, and experience the outdoors in ways that we never have before. Part of that pushes me to think of creative ways to live with the uncertainty of what’s to come. I don’t know how you feel about this, but there are quiet moments during my day when I’m reminded of what I used to do as a little girl when I was bored, and I remember coloring, playing outside in the backyard jumping rope, or inviting a friend over for a playdate. How many of you have had a playdate lately? This summer, some of my clients surprised me with the ideas they came up with to safely see people, even go on socially distanced romantic dates.
Some of you live in warm climates. When was the last time you went to the beach, or on a hike? For those of us, like me who live in the northeast part of the US where it’s cold right now, when was the last time you canvased a local park for a trail? Or went mountain biking or played a virtual group game? I know this may not be the most thrilling of events for some folks, but for others, I’ve seen people doing word games online, starting puzzles at home, making DIY projects, redesign their home office (if there’s one), adopt a pet, become a plant parent, start taking a class to learn a new language, or like I did- start learning more about investing and ways to improve my 2nd language skills for personal development while simultaneously started expanding my professional development.
Ultimately, forming new memories during this time is one way to survive the pandemic without going completely bonkers. If you could start doing one new thing this week that would give you joy, what new thing would it be?
